Inspiring Artist of the day - Leon Bakst
Fantastic figures full of action, amazing ballet costumes for the Ballet Russes. Great patterns and figures - I feel like I'm getting to know more about my own choices in art and design by doing this series - I love figures - line work, draughtsmanship - colour, pattern... ...and his design for Cleopatra's costume inspired me to create this! #art #artist #moirarae #moiraraecarter #moiracarter #illustrator #inspiration #designer #leonbakst #Inspiringartistoftheday

Inspiring Artist of the day - Vera Neumann
Fabulous - Bright - Free illustrations, full of life, colour and visual POP! Vera is probably best known for her silk scarves. The original 'Signature' scarf - Vera discovered parachute silk in an army surplus store during World War II, and silk screened designs - signed simply with 'Vera'. Later she added a lady bird - ladybug - to her signature. They were incredibly popular, Marilyn Monroe was a great fan and wore one - with nothing else - for a famous Vogue magazine fashio

Make Art That Sells
Unashamed plug for Lilla Rogers MATS courses. CPD for Illustrators! Being an artist is not the Bohemian dream some people think it is or should be. But wait... things will get better, at least I really hope so. The first example is my design for the Bolt Fabric assignment 'Pasta & Peas' and I'm pretty sold

The subject for today : Inspiration
... it comes from a myriad of places and fires up the Muse to create all manner of wonderful stuff. So where does mine come from? Chance comments in conversation with a good friend, a great image at an exhibition, a wonderful piece of music - all of these and more. The most recent on my radar: a glorious conversation about seafood and a shared love of crab, which has resulted in a challenge to create a crab based design - watch this space - and an exhibition at Ruthin Craft C

Bonny Prints Charming!
A week in Scotland and thoughts naturally turn to the ubiquitous tartan, well it is everywhere! Several years ago - during a visit to Cardoness - I found myself truly taken by the urge to produce my own tartans based on the colours of the seasons in Scotland. The skies, the stone, the highlands and the heather. I created a collection of twelve, one for each month and I still love them all. #tartan #scotland #spoonflower #moirarae #art #artist #designer #illustrator #moiracart
