Inspiring Artist of the Day - Andrew Wyeth

Moira Carter

I first Saw Wyeth's work in an exhibition at the Royal Academy, there was a painting of a girl at the top of the staircase, so beautifully painted I thought, just for a moment, that she was waiting for us to go up and meet her.

Famous for realistic portraits of his life - how and where he lived - home tutored by his father who was the renowned illustrator N.C. Wyeth, his chosen mediums were egg tempera and watercolour, his works are detailed but never overworked and the composition is just perfection.

Infamous for his unique portrait series of Helga, around two hundred and fifty studies, over the period 1971–85 ...without the knowledge of either his wife or Helga's husband, John Testorf.
