Inspiring Artist of the day - Grayson Perry
God/Goddess of Home Decor Grayson Perry. If you haven't heard of him I'd be surprised, although my partner did say "Who?". Winner of the Turner Prize in 2003 and he of 'A House for Essex' fame. "Perry’s rentable collaboration with FAT Architecture, located in Wrabness near the coast, is a modern take on the traditional wayside pilgrimage chapel, and has been conceived as a tribute to fictional “secular saint” and artist Julie Cope." Also he of the fantastic socially and hist

Inspiring Artist of the day - Christy Keeney
Love, love, love her work which will soon be exhibited - in October 2017 - at the Bluecoat Display Centre in Liverpool, click on the image below for details... I'll meet you there! I adore the painterly quality of her work, the line work is just great! Here are a few more examples to get you in the mood for the exhibition: I particularly love how she references classical art - the 'Chumerly sisters' is a reference to the Cholmondeley sisters, seen below, painted by an unknown

Inspiring Artists of the day - Anne-Marie Ødegaard & Konrad Galaaen
You can't have one without the other - well maybe you can but I choose not too as Anne-Marie potted the most perfectly shaped ware and Konrad's decoration works so incredibly well with it. See for yourselves... #art #artist #ceramic #midcentury #moiracarter #moirarae #moiraraecarter #moiracarter

Inspiring Artist of the day - Turi Gramstad Oliver
Several weeks ago a wee thin jug was donated to the Save the Children shop in Chester, where I sort and price Bric-a-brac twice a week... I've learnt a lot! Now this wee thing I thought was rather splendid, since then I have found out it came from the same factory as these amazing plates which we also had at the shop - in fact ours were a set of six dinner plates, all different and one server with yet another fish on it, we still have two of the dinner plates there now - alth

Inspiring Artist of the day - Mari Simmulson
This morning I started a ceramics board on Pinterest, when I found a plaque I rather liked, so after a slight wander off with Figgjo Flint pottery - also superb - I started to hunt for all things by the designer - Mari Simmulson... ...and suddenly up popped these owls!... Now, in the Make Art That Sells classroom yesterday Lilla Rogers did her usual 'Show and tell' and held up a great sculptural piece from UE - Upsala Ekeby ...it was the larger owl! I do love a coincidence -

Inspiring Artist of the day - Cleo Mussi
Without breakers there are no makers... Without makers there are no breakers. Cleo Mussi works in mosaic, using broken crockery to make wall art and objet d'art - a lot of which you can see in her studio pictured above... click on the above image to be transported there. Click on the image below to see her at work I came across her fantastic - full of whimsy and humour - work in an exhibition at the Bluecoat craft centre in Liverpool. Cleo also takes on commissions for large

Inspiring Artist of the Day - Charles Rennie Mackintosh
Charles Rennie Mackintosh was known to some as an artist, others as a designer, and more as an architect. I love this wide and varied portfolio as I too have painted, illustrated, and designed ... no buildings yet, but then it's not something I've seriously considered. Mackintosh, like many other artists tended to be known for one thing, not for just style of craftsmanship, because that is what making art is, but his current output ...what he was working on at the time. Inspiring Artist of the Day - Miche Follano
After the last blog you were probably expecting me to write about Yves Klein, but no! I met Miche at 'Art in clay' at Hatfield a wee while ago, I am a great fan of simplicity and - although you may not know it - blue and white pottery, and I loved every piece she had on show! That isn't to say that is all she makes, but it was the blue and white I saw that day that drew me in. Inspiring Artist of the Day - Mary Wondrausch
Mary Wondrausch - I've linked this image to a video of her on Vimeo Great lady, so very passionate about not only her own work but others, I know she also loved Barry Stedman's work, mentioned in a previous blog, as she told me at a Hatfield last summer ...while we were standing next to him! I only met her twice and both times she was a joy to talk to, the first time I was in my twenties and studying pottery - Adult Education classes in Surbiton and Twickenham - there was a

Inspiring Artist of the Day - Picasso!
Yes, I know, not everyone's cup of tea, and my best friend Elaine was suitably unimpressed when I asked her to join me and Mum on a visit to: “Picasso: Painter and Sculptor in Clay” at the Royal Academy in 1998. But, by the time we left she'd changed her mind - Mum had too! I fell in love with his ceramics on a birthday trip to Bonhams with a friend from work, many, many years ago - a goats head dish was up for auction - it may have been this one! And here I go again - freed

Inspiring Artist of the day - Barry Steadman
Artist and Potter - or is that Potter and Artist?! Either way I love the freedom in his work... I seem to be mentioning Freedom a lot! I've seen his pots several times and even bought a wee red one for my sister - she loves it. I've also noticed I seem to be picking images with a definite blue element. #art #artist #Potter #moirarae #moiraraecarter #moiracarter #inspiration #ceramic #barrysteadman #Inspiringartistoftheday

The subject for today : Inspiration
... it comes from a myriad of places and fires up the Muse to create all manner of wonderful stuff. So where does mine come from? Chance comments in conversation with a good friend, a great image at an exhibition, a wonderful piece of music - all of these and more. The most recent on my radar: a glorious conversation about seafood and a shared love of crab, which has resulted in a challenge to create a crab based design - watch this space - and an exhibition at Ruthin Craft C
