Inspiring Artists - Christmas!

It's that time of year when my thoughts turn to Christmas cards and in particular designing my own. I've done this for many, many years and thought that many other artists have done this too. This sent me on a hunt for some of those artists and their festive offerings, either for friends and family or as a commercial venture.

Here are a select few of my favourites:

At the top of this blog you can see a splendid design by Edward Bawden for wrapping paper. I love the hint of a purple night sky complete with moon and clouds, and the texture that comes from the block print.

To the left is really lovely image of a boy with a father Christmas mask and doves by Pablo Picasso, this one is a lithograph, and below is a forest full of Christmas trees by Charley Harper. I love that inverted triangle with the forester removing a tree ...pure genius!

Xmas above by Frederick Hammersley, that winter tree with the lights, so clever...

...and finally a really fun image by the Disney artist John Hench.

I adore that warm glow inside the home and the cross section,

which allows the artist to show Santa in the chimney!

As for me, I'm off to do some more pondering.

P.S. if you click on the images you can find out more about each artist.

Go on you know you want to!
