The image is conceived as a print, it is NOT a reproduction of a painting or any other piece of artwork.
The artist creates the design directly onto the printing block, screen or plate as the first stage of a printing process. Once the prints have been created they are inspected and approved, numbered - as an edition - and signed. The editions are strictly limited and when completed the block, screen or plate is destroyed.
Artists use many techniques to produce 'Original' prints: mono print, lino cut, lithography, etching and screen printing to name just a few.
